NASSAU CO. (WABC) -- In Nassau County, two-term incumbent Democrat Tom Suozzi has just a 237-vote lead over Republican Edward Mangano.
With all precincts reporting, unofficial results had both at 48 percent.
Today, Eyewitness News went behind the scenes at the Nassau County Board of Elections, where they're getting ready for a complete recount.
Workers will recheck the numbers from 1,300 voting machines and eventually will count as many as 12,000 absentee ballots.
All ballots should be counted by Nov. 27.Like elsewhere this year, the race in Nassau County was all about taxes and the economy.
You need not look far to find signs of the national trends against incumbents.
And even after an exhaustingly late election night, Suozzi and Mangano are both still very much in campaign mode.
"They're looking for new leadership and I believe that once the absentee ballots are counted we will have the margin of victory," said Mangano.
Suozzi said, "I don't think this is about Ed Mangano, I think the majority of people still don't know who Ed Mangano is. The reality is this is about an anti-incumbent tide that's taking place."
