New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg takes aim at e-cigarettes
NEW YORK (WABC) -- Tobacco cigarettes are banned from most buildings in New York City, and now it appears the Bloomberg administration has its sights set on electronic cigarettes.
Three leaked proposed City Council bills would stop most flavored e-cigarettes from being sold at convenience stores.
The legislation cites a new study that shows the number of high school students who tried e-cigarettes last year increased by 40 percent.
Other bills would raise the tobacco age to 21, while another would prohibit the display of cigarette advertising in stores. The third involves tobacco coupons and creates a $10.50-floor per pack price and increases the fines against those caught illegally selling cigarettes.
