ALBANY -- A new law goes into effect in New York Thursday designed to get more people registered to become organ donors.
Lauren's Law requires anyone who applies for a New York state driver's license or learner's permit to answer whether they wish to be added to the Donate Life Registry.
The law is named after 13-year-old Lauren Shields, from Rockland County, who underwent a heart transplant four years ago.
Senator David Carlucci and Assemblyman Felix Ortiz are expected to be at an event marking the first day of the law.
The revised MV-44 form contains new language derived from Lauren's Law.
