Voice of Cyclones, ex-TWIB fill-in Fusselle dies

Warner Fusselle, the voice of the Brooklyn Cyclones and a former host of "This Week in Baseball," died Sunday night of an apparent heart attack, the New York-Penn League team announced.

NEW YORK -- Warner Fusselle, the voice of the Brooklyn Cyclones and a former host of "This Week in Baseball," died Sunday night of an apparent heart attack, the New York-Penn League team announced. He was 68.

"We are deeply saddened by the news of Warner's passing," said Cyclones general manager Steve Cohen in a statement. "There is no one who knew more -- or cared more -- about baseball in Brooklyn than Warner. His distinctive voice, knowledge and endless passion for the game enriched Brooklyn Cyclones baseball for our players, staff, and fans from day one, and his presence will be sorely missed."

Fusselle was a sports broadcaster for 40 years. Among his many jobs, he filled if for legend Mel Allen on "This Week in Baseball" and called Seton Hall basketball games before becoming the Cyclones play-by-play man when the team was founded in 2001.

Fusselle's family is planning a funeral service in South Carolina on June 13 at the Chapel of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, S.C.
