Man stabbed at subway station

Thursday, July 06, 2006

A 64-year-old man on his way to work was attacked by a suspect armed with work saws in an Upper West Side subway station.

Eyewitness News has learned the suspect apparently used the Transit Authority equipment to attack the victim on the platform of the Cathedral Parkway station at 110th Street and Broadway just after 3:30 a.m.

Witnesses say, using two work saws, the suspect held the victim on the ground and cut into him.

The victim yelled, "He's drilling me! He's drilling me!" according to a witness. "When I heard the drilling noise, I thought he was being electrocuted on the track," said the witnesses, Isaac Prescott.

The victim was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital in critical condition with numerous wounds to the chest.

The suspect was described as a black man, 5'11" tall, medium complexion and a clean shaved head, wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and tan work boots. He fled the scene.

No arrests were made.

Investigators say the witness described the two saws as "the kind you use to cut through metal." Transit Authority workers were apparently using them to fix the subway sound system.

Detectives later recovered evidence in a trash can on the street.
