Person fatally struck by subway train

A person was struck and killed by a subway train at the Columbus Circle station this morning, causing delays on several subway lines.

Eyewitness News has learned the person was struck by the train just before 7 a.m., and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the death was being investigated as a possible suicide.

But the incident caused big delays at the busy 59th Street-Columbus Circle Station for the morning commute.

As of 8:40 a.m., No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 line service are operating with residual delays.
