Collapse suspended 2 subway lines Thursday night

Thursday, April 05, 2007

Service on the no. 2 and 5 lines was suspended in both directions earlier Thursday between East 180th street and East 149th street/Grand Concourse in the Bronx due to the collapse of a 100-to-150 foot section of scaffolding onto the elevated tracks at the Freeman St station.

Service was restored around 9 p.m.

The incident happened at 4:24 p.m.

Service was suspended at 4:36 p.m. as power was cut to allow crews to remove the scaffolding.

The Transit Authority expects the removal process to move fairly quickly, though they have no estimate on service restoration at this time.
