(Rockaways - WABC, May 1, 2007) (WABC) -- A water main break created a gaping sinkhole and flooded streets in the Rockaways section of Queens.
Newscopter Seven was live over the scene this morning.
The 24-inch main broke at the intersection of Beach 102 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard just after 3:30 a.m.
About a foot of water spread to several streets causing basements in the area to flood. The break created a gaping sinkhole in the middle of the intersection.
DEP workers capped the main.
The intersection at Rockaway Beach Boulevard was shut down and is expected to stay that way all day.
