One injured in Forest Hills truck explosion

Thursday, November 08, 2007

A box truck parked in back of a business exploded in Forest Hills, Queens, Thursday morning, injuring one person near the scene.

Authorities say the incident happened when the truck, reported to be an Avis rental truck, blew up behind the strip of businesses at 64-25 108th Street, near 64th Road, just after 8 a.m.

The force of the explosion shattered nerves and broke some windows.

Eyewitness News is told one person near the scene was injured. There was no structural damage reported to nearby buildings.

Fire officials said it appears the explosion stemmed from a propane tank in the back of the truck. However, they are not sure what caused the explosion.
