Truck obliterates bridge on Bruckner Expwy.

Friday, August 08, 2008

All lanes of the Bruckner Expressway re-opened hours after a horrendous accident shut down the roadway.

The accident happened in Pelham Bay at Waterbury Avenue just after 2:15 early Friday morning.

That's where a dump truck crashed into a pedestrian bridge, sliced part of it off and sent it flying into the southbound lanes.

Traffic was a nightmare, backed up for miles. The debris caused the closure of the Bruckner Expressway. Northbound lanes were closed until daybreak. The southbound lanes did not open until the afternoon.

The truck driver was listed in stable condition. He was the only person injured.
