Bus headed to Inauguration breaks down

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Barack Obama becomes the 44th President of the United States.

A bus carrying dozens of people to watch Barack Obama's inauguration became stranded for more than six hours on the side of a cold highway in Mamaroneck.

The bus broke down on the southbound New England Thruway, near Exit 18A, just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

A mechanic tried to fix the bus for more than five hours, stopped on the shoulder, with cars passing it in the highway lanes and the raps lanes.

But after six hours, the mechanic were unable to move the bus. Police responded to provide security as passengers were taken to taxis that arrived.

The bus was operated by Crystal Transport of Brighton, Mass.
