NEW YORK (WABC) -- If you think the subway is more crowded these days, you're right.
The MTA says ridership hit a 62-year high last year, despite service disruptions caused by Superstorm Sandy.
New York City subway trips increased by .8 percent in 2012, with more than 1.6 billion rides.
This comes even though the MTA claims it lost nearly 50 million trips due to the October storm.
"MTA ridership has been growing for 20 years, and this positive trend reflects New York State's improving economy and continuing improvements to the MTA's services," MTA Interim Chairman Fernando Ferrer said.
Average weekend ridership on the subway grew by 3 percent, matching the all-time historic high for weekend ridership set in 1946.
