George Washington Bridge to have more closures to prevent plate shifting

Emergency repairs close 3 lanes on GWB Two outbound lanes of GWB closed for emergency repairs

All lanes on the George Washington Bridge have reopened after emergency maintenance on a shifting construction plate closed the upper level outbound lanes on Wednesday evening.

The closures were a result of shifting plates that required emergency maintenance.

To prevent further incidents the Port Authority has announced GWB lane closures will continue for the next two nights and next week.

Week of 12/9, 3-lane closure, Monday-Friday on the WESTBOUND roadway to New Jersey:

  • Monday, 12/9 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Tuesday, 12/10 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Wednesday, 12/11 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Thursday, 12/12 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Friday, 12/13 10 p.m. to 10 a.m.

    Week of 12/16, 3-lane closure, Monday-Friday on the WESTBOUND roadway to New Jersey:

  • Monday, 12/16 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Tuesday, 12/17 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Wednesday, 12/18 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Thursday, 12/19 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Friday, 12/20 10 p.m. to 10 a.m.

    Motorists can use the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels as alternate routes.
