NEW YORK (WABC) -- It's Latin Night on "Dancing with the Stars"! They are doing the intros differently where everyone just dances around together. They aren't doing the traditional coming down the stairs to that music that everyone knows.
Elizabeth and Val were up first with their Samba. She looked amazing in her red dress and she brought a lot of energy to the dance. She and Val work really well together. She even did a split at one point! She has a lot of confidence on the dance floor and that's evident in her Samba. Len said that it was so close and it was absolutely great. He loved her energy and also complimented Val. Bruno said that she moves fast and that the amount of technique in the dance was amazing. He noted that she missed a few passes, but Val said it was actually his fault. Carrie Ann said that she was in her element and that she loved how she moved through the dance.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 8, Len 9, and Bruno 8, for a total of 25 out of 30. Combined with last week they have a 49 out of 60.
Christina and Mark danced the Paso Doble. You know that these two will bring the heat! They were fiery from the start. Their holds were really good and the crowd was on their feet dancing as they moved across the dance floor. Even when they weren't in hold, they had a lot of fun elements. Hopefully the judges think there was enough Paso Doble in that dance. Bruno noticed a little misstep, but thought they brought great passion to the dance. Carrie Ann said it was insane, the lines were amazing, and she nailed all the steps. Len said it was a Paso Doble with a contemporary twist and he thought it was terrific! Well that's good, he thought they preserved enough of the elements of a traditional Paso Doble.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 9, Len 8, and Bruno 8, for a total of 25 out of 30. Combined with last week they have a 47 out of 60.
Bill and Emma danced the Jive. It was a little bit of an awkward start with him standing there snapping, but then he got his feet kicking and flicking! He actually had a good amount of energy. I loved watching him dance for some reason! I can't really explain it! He did really well with a difficult, fast dance. The audience loved it too! Carrie Ann called it fantastic fun! Len said that there were a few times he could have sworn he was Derek! Ha! He commended his energy and effort. Bruno said that he threw everything in but the kitchen sink! He loved the performance and called it "so enjoyable."
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 7, Len 7, and Bruno 7, for a total of 21 out of30, and a 39 out of 60 for both weeks.
Jack and Cheryl took to the dance floor with their Rumba. They began on a smoky dance floor. He was very lyrical. He looked like a very strong, yet sensitive dancer. They had an unexpected amount of passion! You could tell he rehearsed really hard and I think his hard work paid off! It was so romantic and elegant. Len said it had great control and it had great lines and he liked the fluidity. He did say that he thought his hands were a bit odd at times though. Bruno said he was smooth, sensual and romantic. He said what he has done in two weeks is unbelievable. Carrie Ann said that he transports her to another time.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 8, Len 8, and Bruno 8, for a total of 24 out of 30, and a combined two week store of 47 out of 60.
Keyshawn and Sharna followed with their Samba. He had some good hip action in the dance, but it seemed a little stiff when he would try to connect one motion to another. He also nearly dropped her at the end of the dance! Whoops! It wasn't very good. It just seemed sloppy to me. Bruno said that he went for it all the way. Keyshawn then nearly started to cry about how it's an amazing experience and Sharna made him feel comfortable. Carrie Ann said that she noticed more confidence, but called the dance rough around the edges. Len said that he admires his effort and he was working his "assets" but the key to the show is improving week by week and it was better than last week.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 6, Len 6, and Bruno 6, for a total of 18 out of 30 and a combined total of 35 out of 60.
Snooki and Sasha danced the Rumba. She was really good at the lyrical movements and I loved the pass she did under Sasha's leg in the beginning of the dance. I didn't really like the weird face she was making the whole dance. But, the dancing was actually pretty good! Carrie Ann said that the dance was pretty, but that she didn't see a story there. She also noticed a small lift so she had to deduct a point from her score. Len thought it was very clear, but almost a little too sharp and placed. He thought it was pretty, neat and nice though. Bruno said she has great potential although he wants to see her sustain a character all the way through. He also thought it was too sharp and needed to be a continuous motion.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 6, Len 7, and Bruno 7, for a total of 20 out of 30, and a combined total of 43 out of 60 for both weeks.
Leah and Tony were up next with their Samba. She came out all flouncy and sexy! She missed a few marks right off the top though. She seemed like she was dancing in slow motion and behind the beat the whole time. The judges however, did not agree at all and thought she was fantastic. Len said that she had lovely hands and she was working her hips, and he thought it was great. Bruno said that she is a "saucy Latin beauty" and that she came out of herself. Carrie Ann said that she unleashed her Samba goddess. I guess we were watching different dances! Wow!
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 8, Len 8, and Bruno 8, for a total of 24 out of 30 and a combined two week score of 45 out of 60.
Bill and Tyne hoped to redeem themselves from last week with their Paso Doble. He looked much crisper than last week. My one criticism is that it is all performance aspect and not enough "serious" dancing. At least, that's what I think the judges are going to think perhaps. I thought the dance overall was pretty good and the crowd gave him a standing ovation. Bill did trip during the dance once, but said he's fine. Bruno said that he stepped it up and he liked the Paso Doble that was in the dance. Carrie Ann said that he worked with what he's got and that it was a bizarre masterpiece of insanity. She thinks he needs to work on his feet some though. Len said that there is a formula to dancing and that some of the parts were missing from the dance but he liked the fun, he liked the performance, and his commitment.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 6, Len 5, and Bruno 6, for a total of 17 out of 30 and a two week total of 31 out of 60. Wow, that's still pretty low!
Corbin and Karina were sure to wow the crowd with their Jive. They kind of performed the dance almost like it was "High School Musical". He had an amazing amount of energy. I loved his kicks and the height he was getting with them. He's such a phenomenal dancer. It's almost not fair to the other contestants! Carrie Ann said it was so fun and she loved his athleticism. She also said his musicality was spot on and she loved the raw edge he brought to it. Len said, "I'm telling you, you can dance!" He loved his dance, but thought it was a little sharp on his footwork towards the end. Bruno said, "Are you kidding me?!" He thought it was dazzling brilliance.
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 9, Len 8, and Bruno 9, for a total of 26 out of 30 and a combined score of 50 out of 60 for the two weeks.
Valerie and Tristan took to the dance floor with their Paso Doble. She went all out, she stomped and waved her dress around and did a great job! She kept up with the choreography, and honestly, I don't know how she does it! Len said that she came out with commitment and he liked the bit of Flamenco they put in, however, he thought she seemed a little nervous. Bruno said that he loved her hands and that she tried very hard to keep her shoulders down and he noticed that. He did tell her to work a bit on her footwork though because he noticed a few little slip ups. Carrie Ann said that she has a hard time not judging her considering her bravery of her brain tumor, but that she's going to do it honestly and Valerie seemed happy with that. She also commended the effort and said that she needs to work on some of the steps and seemed slightly lost in the middle. Ouch!
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 6, Len 6, and Bruno 7, for a total of 19 out of 30 and a combined score of 40 out of 60 for the two weeks. After the scores were read Valerie said she was glad the judges were honest with their scoring.
Brant and Peta danced the Rumba. They came out and it was super sexy. He had a lot of strength in his hold and was truly leading her in the dance. They had fluidity of their movements and he nearly kissed her in the middle of the dance, and at the end too! It was downright steamy! Bruno said all the ladies will feel restless and fidgety after watching that. He added that he did the dance incredibly well. Carrie Ann said they had amazing chemistry and added that he can move and has beautiful accents. Len said that he liked it but he didn't go into ecstasy over the thing. He thought his feet looked pigeon toed. He was rough on him!
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 8, Len 7, and Bruno 8, for a total of 23 out of 30 and a two week combined score of 45 out of 60.
The final couple to dance was Amber and Derek with their Jive. She came out hopping! I expected them to be fantastic and they were. She had the perfect amount of cuteness for the dance. I loved when Derek "motor-boated" her. She even threw in a cartwheel at the end! It was so good and of course, the crowd gave them a standing ovation! Carrie Ann said that she thought she was a little flat footed and needed a little more point but she was still fantastic. Len thought she was terrific but needs to work on her footwork. Bruno said the footwork was a little flat and more like a Lindy hop but called her "irresistible."
Their Scores: Carrie Ann 8, Len 8, and Bruno 8, for a total of 24 out of 30 and two week score of 51 out of 60.
Then, it was time for the big elimination! It came down to Keyshawn Johnson and Bill Engvall. In the end, it was Keyshawn Johnson and his partner Sharna were eliminated. I did not expect that. I thought it was going to be Bill Engvall! Keyshawn had the sweetest things to say about Sharna, and it's a shame we won't be seeing any more of the two of them together. Don't forget to vote. With this new format, it's easy to forget that you have to get those votes in! They'll be counted towards next week's elimination.
