Paterson Mayor agrees to return overtime pay

Eyewitness NewsPATERSON, NJ -- The mayor of a New Jersey city and three of his salaried aides have agreed to return more than $20,000 in overtime pay for working during Hurricane Irene.
The Record newspaper reports that Paterson Mayor Jeffery Jones and the aides made the decision Friday to return the money to the city treasury amid a public outcry.
The newspaper earlier reported that it obtained public records showing Jones was paid $6,144 in overtime. The rest of the money went to aides, who normally are ineligible.
Jones says he plans to review the legitimacy of the OT payouts. But he left open the possibility that the city might reissue the checks if the Federal Emergency Management Agency approves them.
Jones receives an annual salary of $119,017.
