Cathy was born in Detroit and attended elementary and high school in Southfield, graduating from Southfield High School in 1974. She then went on to Michigan State University to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Economics.
Cathy's broadcasting career began when she was only 14, reporting news for her high school radio station. After graduating from Michigan State University, she did a brief stint at WMAX radio before joining the ABC12 News team.
In 1985, Cathy moved to the Middle East and worked for ABC, WTN, CNN, CTV, TFI, ITN and others in Israel and Egypt. In 1989, she moved back to the states and freelanced for WDIV-TV and WXYT Radio in Detroit. After writing a book, she went to WJBK-TV in Detroit as a news writer. And in 1994, she made her way back to ABC12.
In 1982, she won first place for a news documentary from the Associated Press for her series, "A Voice for Serena,"a documentary about a cerebral palsy victim's search for a voice.
Cathy is married and has three children and a dog (named Wilson). She enjoys photography, dancing and skiing. She lives in Clarkston.
