Gabe Gutierrez co-anchors ABC12 News Saturday & Sunday Mornings with Angela Brown. He joined the ABC12 news team in June of 2007 as a general assignment reporter based out of the Flint newsroom.
Gabe also regularly produces and hosts "Newsmaker," the station's weekly public affairs program.
Both the Associated Press and the Michigan Association of Broadcasters have honored him for breaking news coverage and investigative reporting.
He has also received an Emmy for his investigation into what several banks called one of the largest mortgage schemes ever in Michigan.
Before joining WJRT, Gabe worked at WBOY, the NBC affiliate in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He anchored weekend newscasts and reported during the week.
While in West Virginia, Gabe had the privilege of covering many memorable stories. The one that touched him the most was the Sago mine explosion, which killed 12 miners in Upshur County. Gabe was among the first reporters at the scene.
In the months following the disaster, he also reported live from Washington, D.C. as new federal mine safety legislation swept through Congress.
Gabe graduated from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism with a double major in political science. He is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
Originally from Miami, Gabe's interned at the Spanish-language network Telemundo in South Florida and ABC News' satellite feed service in Chicago.
During his senior year, he traveled to New Delhi, India, where he completed a three-month internship for the Indian 24-hour news channel Headlines Today.
