NAKED THIEF

LUMBERTON, N.C. (AP) - Police are giving Jonathan Michael Allen something to wear -- handcuffs. Officers say they busted Allen after getting a tip a naked man was walking on a state highway in Lumberton, North Carolina. Police Lieutenant Johnny Barnes says Allen "was naked as the day he was born." Police charge the naked guy in a string of rip-offs, involving more than $85,000 worth of stuff. He's being held on $150,000 bail and is due in court in a couple of weeks.

BALLOON BAN

SACRAMENTO (AP) - California lawmakers are popping the balloon. The state Senate has passed a ban on those helium-filled metallic party balloons. Utility company officials blame fly-away balloons for shorting out power lines and causing hundreds of blackouts in recent years. The bill would impose a $100 fine for selling the forbidden balloons. The measure now goes to the state Assembly.

SMALLEST RAMEN BOWL

TOKYO (AP) - This noodle bowl certainly won't leave you feeling full. Japanese scientists have used cutting-edge nano technology to create a ramen bowl so small it can only be seen through a microscope. The bowl has a diameter of just one-25-thousandths of an inch across. The noodles are even smaller, one-ten-thousandth of the thickness of a human hair. Even tough it's tiny, the researchers say the carbon-based ramen shouldn't be eaten.

BEDBUG LAWSUIT

NEW YORK (AP) - Something's bugging a Fox News employee. Jane Clark is suing the landlord of Fox's building in New York, charging she got bedbug bites at work. The satellite feed coordinator says the tiny bugs left her unable to work last year and she now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Clark says an investigation revealed that another employee was bringing the bugs to work from home, but that person no longer works at Fox. The Fox News Channel and its parent News Corporation are not charged in the suit.

SPACE BEER

TOKYO (AP) - It's some pretty spacey brew. Japanese brewer Sapporo is making suds with barley descended from grains that traveled aboard the International Space Station. A Sapporo spokeswoman says the first test run of 100 bottles will be ready in November. The barley seeds spend 5 months in orbit as part of an Okayama University experiment on the effects of space travel on plants. So far, the researchers say the space grain looks just like it never left home. Sapporo doesn't plan on selling the space beer.

SCHOOL PRANK

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) - It's a senior prank that took 33 years to pull off. In 1975, a group of students at North High in Springfield, Ohio, unbolted the flagpole, stacked old tires around it and put it back. But police caught four of the "North High Phantoms" and told them if everything was cleaned up by morning, no charges would be filed. Well, this spring, the phantoms are at it again. They donated $1,000 toward a new gym, in exchange for permission to carry out their prank. So, with the OK of the principal, the phantoms got to stack the tries around the flagpole.
