VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Virginia Beach wants to get serious about people who feed the ducks. Signs has been posted for years in the Virginia resort city asking people not to feed the birds. But being nice just hasn't work. Now, the Virginia Beach City Council is considering an ordinance that would impose a 100 buck fine for people who duck the no-duck feeding request. City officials say feeding ducks, geese and seagulls makes the birds aggressive and contributes to the mess they leave behind.
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Penthouse wants to get into Sin City. Penthouse CEO Marc Bell says the company is looking to buy a casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Bell tells the Review-Journal the best time to buy is in a down economy. Bell says he'd like to see the women who pose for Penthouse as casino dealers. He'd also like to have strippers performing at the Penthouse casino, if it becomes legal. Bell says Vegas is getting back to its risque roots and Penthouse wants to be part of the action.
MILWAUKEE (AP) - The mom dropped a dime on her teen-aged kids. Now, she's being praised by police officials in Milwaukee. Police Capt. David Zibolski says the mother recognized her 16-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter in security video of a gas station robbery. The footage was shown on a local TV station. Police say the woman did the right thing by calling the cops on her kids. Capt. Zibolski adds officers hope she will be an example to others with information about crimes.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Authorities don't find anything funny in a Butler University prank. Twenty-one-year-old Austin Egenolf is one of four guys facing charges after Butler's bulldog mascot costumes were ripped off. Egenolf tells The Indianapolis Star he's sorry. He says the costumes were taken from an unlocked fieldhouse. Egenolf adds he and the others took the bulldog get-ups to a party, but they lost track of them. He says the prank got out of hand. The Indiana school has now ordered two new costumes, valued at about $14,000.
SEATTLE (AP) - When Mark Ryan traveled across the West, he didn't have to worry about gas money. However, hay was an issue. Ryan rode his horse Mister Doodles 2,000 miles though seven states. It took him nearly five months to travel from Oklahoma to Washington state. And his old school journey went beyond just the mode of transportation. Ryan didn't have any fancy gizmos with him, like a GPS satellite navigation device or even a cell phone. He says there's nothing like seeing the country at 2 miles an hour.
WASHINGTON (AP) - First, President-elect Barack Obama quit smoking. Now, he may have to give up another addiction -- his BlackBerry. During the campaign, candidate Obama would frequently check his BlackBerry for e-mail. But experts note the electronic device can be tracked, which could be a security concern for the new president. E-mail can also be subpoenaed by Congress and the courts. That's why Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton didn't e-mail while in office. On the other hand, former Clinton press secretary Mike McCurry says Obama will be the president -- and he can carry a Blackberry if he wants.
