Saginaw Township (WJRT) -- (03/10/06)--He's being hailed by some as a champion for men's rights, while others are calling him just another "deadbeat dad" trying to avoid paying child support.
Regardless, Saginaw Township's Matt Dubay and his federal lawsuit they're calling "the men's Roe vs. Wade" has brought national attention to Mid Michigan.
Dubay's phone has been ringing off the hook over the past 24 hours. From every major newspaper, radio and television network, everyone seems to have an interest in the 25-year-old computer programmer.
Dubay's attorney filed the suit in federal court Thursday, complaining that Dubay's Constitutional rights are being violated by having to pay child support.
The National Center For Men is backing Dubay. It stems from Dubay's ex-girlfriend requesting child support payments.
While Dubay says he was tricked because his ex, Lauren Wells, also of Saginaw Township, told him that she was unable do get pregnant due to a medical condition.
He also says she was on birth control. Ultimately he would like to see the law change for men. He says they have no rights when it comes to unwanted or unintended pregnancies.
