MID MICHIGAN (WJRT) (WJRT) -- (11/22/06)--Not everyone was traveling to their holiday destinations Wednesday night. In fact, many planned to stay close to home.
The night before Thanksgiving is considered the biggest bar night of the year. It ranks right up there with St. Patrick's Day.
For the local bars and pubs, it's a big business night to kick off the holiday season and have some holiday cheer with family and friends.
Drinking establishments said they'll have DJs, free food at happy hour, and they were expecting large crowds. Wednesday night is also a big night for local law enforcement.
Extra patrols were out enforcing traffic violations -- specifically drunk drivers. Police said they were anticipating more arrests than any other night.
Police will be making their presence known around the various counties in the area. Police say those extra patrols will be out and about in your neighborhood starting tonight at 8 p.m.
