High-tech jobs headed to Flint

FLINT (WJRT) (WJRT) -- (01/17/07)-- The Flint area is getting an economic boost.  More than 100 high-tech jobs are coming to the area.

ParkingCarma is a California-based company that says it will invest up to $4.6 million to locate its customer service center at the Great Lakes Technology Center, in Flint.

The company chose Flint over sites in California and North Carolina.

When fully operational, the company says about 150 people will work at the call center.

ParkingCarma is a national company that helps drivers find parking places in major metropolitan areas around the country. The system is popular in urban centers like Chicago, Los Angeles and other areas where congestion is a unending problem

The service is not yet offered in the Flint area.

"We know high technology,  my team does. And what we need are people that are very creative people," said company CEO Rick Warner.

"We're looking for a core group o of 50 to 60 people to begin with, that are leaders, that want to...grab a service proposition and are innovative about customer support."

The Mott Foundation is expected to provide about $500,000 to the Genesee Chamber Foundation for a job creation loan fund.

Those jobs are said to pay between $15 and $20 per hour.
