Michigan's 'Idol' returns to Flint

Saturday, June 09, 2007

(06/09/07)--A bit of Hollywood came to Mid-Michigan on Saturday night. Well, it came back to Mid-Michigan.

"American Idol" contestant LaKisha Jones stopped home in Flint to wow a crowd of hundreds at Atwood Stadium.

Crowds of people waited with excitement and papers in hand, hoping to get an autograph from Flint's newest celebrity.  And Jones was waiting with her pen.

The 27-year-old bank clerk and single mom had become an "American Idol" fixture, making the semifinals in February. She had stayed alive until May 9th when she was outpolled.

She says she can't believe all the things that are happening to her, which include music, movies and even Broadway.

Jones delivered a soulful version of the Star Spangled Banner at Comerica Park on Friday night and will be honored Monday at the state Capitol in Lansing.
