Back to the Bricks gets under way

GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) (WJRT) -- (08/16/07)--Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. The third annual "Flint Back To The Bricks" car show officially got under way Thursday night.

This year the cruise is a three-day event, giving auto enthusiasts an extra day to show off their chrome.

It's Aug. 16, 2007, but it could've easily been Aug. 16, 1967 -- a warm summer afternoon, waitresses serving up hot dogs and root beer to hungry and thirsty customers sitting in their shiny hot rods.

At what's affectionately known as "The Hot Dog Stand" on South Saginaw Street in downtown Grand Blanc, cruisers and car enthusiasts were showing off their rides.

And that's just one of about 15 host locations between Grand Blanc and downtown Flint where cruisers can stop and relax before doing what cruisers do: cruise.

Modeled after the wildly popular Woodward Dream Cruise just 50 or so miles to our south, the Thursday night cruise in Genesee County marks the kickoff of the third annual Flint Back To The Bricks event.

And what makes the event rather unique is, well, cruisers are cruising. The person who "hatched" the Back to the Bricks event is himself a car enthusiast, Al Hatch.
