BURTON (WJRT) - (WJRT) -- (10/03/07) -- Two teens are in trouble with the law after shooting a Burton attorney with a BB gun. The shooting happened Tuesday night in the parking lot of the Courtland Shopping Center.
Attorney Michael Breczinski says he was walking out to his car in the Courtland parking lot he heard a loud pop, and felt a stinging sensation on the side of his face. That's when he realized he was shot.
"All of a sudden I hear this bang," he said. "Like one of those little cracker things you throw. It wasn't loud enough to be a gun."
But the BB gun was strong enough to leave four wounds on Breczinski; one just below his ear, one on his stomach and two on his arm.
Investigators say a 14-year-old and 15-year-old shot at the attorney as he walked out of Courtland Center.
Breczinski looked back and saw two boys sitting on a bench. He confronted them, and that's when a chase began. He says he chased the teens through the parking lot before catching one of them who showed the weapon.
"One of them opened it up and pulled it out. Quite frankly I knew it was a BB gun. I looked extra careful at it."
The two got away, running into the shopping plaza across the street from the mall. Breczinski called 911 and police caught the teens in a nearby restaurant. Investigators recovered a second weapon this morning.
Breczinski believes he was just a random target, but hopes the teens learn how serious this incident was, especially since he says they were laughing after the shooting.
"Since it was from behind, just a couple of inches higher and it could have hit my glasses," Breczinski said. "I could have lost an eye from a ricochet."
The teens are in the Genesee Valley Regional Detention Center. They were charged this afternoon with felonious assault -- which carries a four year penalty. They'll be back in court later this month.
