Businesses take advantage of October 'summer'

Monday, October 08, 2007

(10/08/07)--Monday's high temperatures meant big money for some local businesses. From golf courses to ice cream parlors, customers got one last taste of summer.

Some people downed ice cream this Columbus Day. Others teed off.

It was a scenic day at the Grand Blanc Golf and Country Club on Perry Road. It saw a steady stream of customers, unusual for this time of year. It's one of the few area golf courses open all year.

But Monday, country club management expected about 50 to 60 golfers. Part of that was due to the weather. The $18 price tag for 18 holes didn't hurt, either.

We asked the general manager how the heat was affecting his business.

"Only in a positive way. It just gives us that extended season," said Andy Soley.

"Here in Michigan, you never know from week to week what you're going to get, but it just allows us to extend our season and let the diehard golfers get out here and enjoy it."

"You just break down easier, loosen up too easy," said golfer Richard Zwierzynski. "You get sweaty real quick."

"Fall rates. Warm weather. Can't beat it," said Steve Gray.

The October heat is affecting more people than you think. Other businesses are taking advantage of this unusual October summer weather.
