Police say they've caught serial bank robber

Wednesday, January 02, 2008

(01/02/08)--Three banks in three weeks. That's how many times police say a Midland County woman robbed local financial institutions.

Officers caught up 60-year-old Jacquelyn King on New Year's Eve. She faced a judge Wednesday afternoon.

A Midland police officer has been given credit for catching King at her home Monday. Prosecutors say they have compelling evidence that links King to the robberies.

The prosecutor says King is tied to three robberies last month. The latest one happened on Monday morning at Chemical Bank on Isabella Road.

A Comerica Bank branch was hit Dec. 6, and three weeks later on Dec. 20, Members First Credit Union was robbed.

Police say King wrote notes demanding cash, was armed at least once and told a teller she had a way of detonating a bomb that was outside, but there was no bomb.

King was a former Midland city employee. She worked in the library and retired there in the late '90s.

Prosecutor Michael Carpenter told the judge to look at what a person has done, not at how old someone is in deciding a bond.

King is charged with three counts of robbery. She could face life in prison if convicted.

The judge set King's bond at $1 million. She'll be back in court in the next two weeks.
