SAGINAW (WJRT) -- (06/06/08)--Fierce winds and heavy rains left a mark in Saginaw Friday night.
Reports of hundreds of trees down, uprooted and blocking traffic, will make for a big cleanup effort this weekend.
Mother Nature tore through Saginaw's east side, taking it with just about everything in sight from trees to bricks and siding off of homes and businesses.
"Sky's different colors, and winds moving in both directions at once, that's not a good sign," said Valdas Geidans.
Friday night Geidans waited out Saginaw's summer storm at his jewelry store on Hamilton Street."All of a sudden you could feel the ground shaking and some loud noise," he said.
The noise he heard was a huge tree that had snapped and landed on the building's roof, knocking down bricks and branches.
"Right where my truck is normally parked is bricks," Geidans said. "I moved it just in time."
The storm had no mercy on a west-side home, where winds forced a tree to yank down siding off the front porch.
And in its path, wicked winds blew the roof right off an Old Town building. Debris was left scattered in the street.
At the Dow Event Center, the windows were blown out before the Sting game. Objbiway Island looked like a scene out of "Jurassic Park."
There were also a number of downed power lines. Consumers Energy is working to get those cleared. Crews are also working to clean up debris off the streets so traffic can get through.
There are no serious injuries to report.
