(01/25/09)--While some Flint schools are closing their doors in these tough economic times, at least one school is optimistic about its future this weekend.

St. Pius X in Flint Township kicked off Catholic Schools Week at mass on Sunday morning.

As it turns out, the downturn in the economy has not affected their school.  In fact, enrollment has been on the rise.

And it's expected to increase next year as well since two area Catholic schools will soon close.

School officials are keeping that increase in perspective.

"I call it a feast of the crows," said Principal R.J. Kaplan.  "A school closes and our enrollment may go up because of the pickings, but that's not growth. We need to reevaluate where we are and what our morals are."

Holy Rosary in Genesee Township and Holy Redeemer in Burton have already announced that they will close their schools at the end of the school year.
