U of M-Flint expanding international reach

Tuesday, June 09, 2009

(06/08/09)--The University of Michigan-Flint is expanding its international reach.

The university has entered into an agreement that could have more students from the Middle East headed to U of M-Flint for college.

The agreement was signed about two weeks ago between the University of Michigan-Flint School of Management and the American College of Dubai.

Essentially what it does is open the door for students of the Dubai college to transfer their credits and complete their college degree at U of M-Flint.

Prof. Yener Kandogan is the associate dean for the U of M-Flint School of Management. He says he applauds this transfer agreement.

"It's going to bring students to our campus to study for a bachelor's degree and they are going to be studying with our students," he said.

The professor says international transfer agreements like this provide a tremendous learning opportunity for students on both sides.

"In today's business world, it's very important to have that ability to communicate and work well with people from different cultures," Kandogan said.

"And I think that is going to be a great experience for our students."

The agreement with the American College of Dubai is one that only allows students to come to Flint.

Kandogan, who is from Turkey, says he believes they will not have a hard time selling students in Dubai on a U of M-Flint education.

The Dubai students, the first of which are expected to arrive this fall, will join more than 150 other international students already taking classes at U of M-Flint.
