New health building dedicated at SVSU

UNIVERSITY CENTER (WJRT) -- (06/29/09) -- Saginaw Valley State University's campus continues to grow with a new health care center.

A dedication ceremony was held for the new building this morning.

Called Saginaw Valley HealthCare, this new MedExpress facility opens in just two days. It's a partnership between the university and Covenant HealthCare.

The general public can use the building, but it was built adjacent to student housing on campus students for easy student access.

The university hopes out-of-town students will be able to ride their bike or simply walk here.

In the past, according to the university, some students would wait to see a doctor until they went home or they would use the university's small health care office.

This new urgent care facility is 10,000 square feet and offers several more services and expanded hours.

The university thinks the new $2.6 million facility  will be a selling point to prospective students and parents.

This new MedExpress facility is just part of the university's latest $45 million dollar expansion plans.
