(07/01/09) -- Authorities in Michigan's Thumb region believe the remains of a baby are buried somewhere in woods in Tuscola County.

Prosecutor Mark Reene made the disclosure in court Monday and during an interview Tuesday with The Associated Press.

Cory Fritz, a former softball coach at Owendale-Gagetown High School, is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a 14-year-old girl in 2005 and 2006. Authorities believe the girl became pregnant.

Reene says the search for remains has been active for two weeks. No charges have been filed in what the prosecutor calls a "separate but related matter."

Fritz returns to court July 20 to determine whether he will go to trial on sex charges. Tuscola County is 100 miles north of Detroit.
