GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) -- (07/27/09)--The damage has been fixed, but United States postal inspectors say an investigation will go forward at a Flint Post Office.
Dozens of mail truck tires were slashed sometime over the weekend, about 40 in all. That's according to the owner of Burton City Towing.
He and one of his employees were at the post office very early Monday morning, changing all those tires.
Some trucks had all four tires flattened, while others only had one flat.
He says about two dozen vehicles were hit. That forced them to go to Flint's main post office to round up enough tires to finish the job.
U.S. postal inspectors are investigating this and they want to be clear: This is a federal offense because it involved the post office.
Tapes from surveillance cameras at that post office are being reviewed.
Investigators are also looking for a little bit of help from anyone who might have seen something over the weekend.
"The postal service is offering a cash reward to anybody who would give information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those who cause this," said U.S. Postal Inspector Wylie Christopher.
If you have any information, you can call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at (877) 876-2455.
And it wasn't just mail truck tires slashed. Residents in the neighborhood behind the post office reported problems as well.
