MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) -- (09/28/09)--Michigan State University has started a new program that shows freshman the consequences of student alcohol abuse.
A similar program is already underway at Kettering University in Flint.
Freshman orientation begins later this week at Kettering, and it includes a session on the consequences of drinking too much alcohol.
The dean of students says Kettering has two goals when it comes to student drinking.
It discourages underage students from using alcohol, plus it promotes responsible drinking for those older than 21.
They also teach students things like when to cut a person off who's had too much to drink. And there are consequences.
"At Kettering, the impact of breaking the rules can be quite profound, because not only do our students attend a university that prohibits underage drinking and discourages intoxication, but our students also have cooperative employment, which could include losing their co-op job," said Dean of Students Betsy Homsher.
