SAGINAW (WJRT) -- (11/03/09) -- One man is in custody after a domestic disturbance turned into an armed standoff with Saginaw police.
The incident started around 5 this morning at a home on Braley Street on the city's southwest side.
The standoff ended peacefully at around 10 a.m.
This neighborhood is quiet now, but there was a lot of activity just a few hours ago. Police got a call saying that a gunshot had been fired in the Braley Street home.
The woman who lives here told police that her husband was upset, and fired a gunshot in the house. It's not clear if it was directed at the woman. The woman, along with her daughter, were able to escape.
When police arrived, the man refused to leave, and his wife told police he had several weapons in the home. The police department's tank arrived, and negotiations began to get the man to come out of the home.
He came out on the porch a number of times to talk with police, but went back inside.
"It's not unusual for somebody, at that point in one of these, to have second thoughts, be a little afraid when they walk out on the front porch. And they see the SWAT Team and the tank sitting on the front lawn, not really sure what's going to happen to them. What we have to do is we have to coax him out and we have to have a talented negotiator; somebody that can talk him into trusting us to come out," said Police Chief Gerald Cliff.
After a few hours of negotiations, police were able to get on the porch, grab the man, and make the arrest.
It's not clear what charges the man will face.
