MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) -- (11/04/09)--Countless people were breathing a sigh of relief Wednesday night now that the U.S. Senate has voted in favor of a major economic bill that would help struggling residents.
Many first-time buyers in Mid-Michigan are anxiously awaiting the passage of the bill so they can move into their new homes with a little extra cash in their pockets.
The Sathers of Flushing made the decision to move back to Michigan recently. At first they weren't sure if everything would get finalized before the first deadline.
But if the extension passes, it looks like they'll make it in time with a few extra dollars to turn their house into a home.
A three-bedroom brick house was the dream house of Brian and Rachel Sather. Working on a short sale, the first-time buyers are hoping to move into the home for around $160,000.
Brian's job allowed him to move back to Michigan. He and his wife have been staying with relatives in Flushing.
"It hasn't been too bad," he said. "The worst part has been the waiting."
Now they are just waiting to hear if the offer put into the back September has been accepted.
If lawmakers in the House sign off on a bill to extend a popular tax credit for home buyers, the Sathers could get up to $8,000 back for being first-time buyers.
There is also a credit of up to $6,500 for repeat home buyers. And the house has to be under $800,000.
