Local Girl Scout troops say they may boycott cookie sales

MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) -- (11/06/09)--Local Girl Scouts are worried their Lapeer County camp will close for good. To prevent that, they're threatening to boycott cookie sales.

Camp O'Fair Winds is closed temporarily. Several buildings were condemned.

There isn't enough money to bring those buildings up to code and now the Fairwinds Council is worried the property will be sold.

The head of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan says there isn't enough money to fix the buildings. Now local troop leader Lynn Goss and camp neighbors worry the property will be sold.

In an effort to save the camp, Goss and her girls might boycott cookie sales.

"We're not getting their attention," she said. "We need to do something to let them know we're serious."

A property planning committee is evaluating O'Fair Winds and a half dozen other camps owned by the council.

Dalrymple says eventually they may have to sell one of those camps.
