MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) -- (11/06/09)--The nation's unemployment rate is now the highest its been in more than 25 years at 10.2 percent.
President Barack Obama is calling it a sobering reminder of the challenges still facing the U.S. economy.
Those numbers are providing very little comfort for those in Michigan still searching for work.
They say the job search has been tough, and with those numbers being released on top of Flint's already high unemployment rate, they feel the light at the end of the tunnel is fading fast.
Recent numbers show the Vehicle City has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state. In September the percentage of those looking for a job was close to 26 percent.Willie Taylor falls into that category.
"Everywhere you search and look, 'We're not hiring,'" she said.
Economists expect unemployment numbers to continue to go up across the country before they start going down.
The rates in the area have been attributed to the large number of jobs lost in auto manufacturing.
