Saginaw-area highway reopens

SAGINAW COUNTY (WJRT) -- (11/13/09) -- A major section of I-675 reopens today, making it easier to get around in the Saginaw area.

Southbound I-675 will reopen where it joins I-75 south by 3:00 Friday afternoon. It's been closed for months.

There will still be one ramp closure at the north junction.

The drive home through this busy section of I-675 will be a lot smoother today. Right now, southbound lanes are open and traffic should be getting back to normal.

Some areas will still be closed, including the I-675 northbound ramp to I-75 northbound. I-675 northbound will continue to be one lane only for the immediate future.

Since construction started in May, the closure has been a major headache for drivers. But MDOT says this project is will fix all the deteriorating bridges along I-675, many of which were falling apart.

The second phase of this project is slated to start next year when I-675 northbound traffic will be rerouted.
