Deer widows enjoy happy hunting in Birch Run

BIRCH RUN (WJRT) -- (11/15/09) -- What do many women do when their husbands hit the woods? They hunt for deals.

And they never come home empty-handed.

As thousands of men flocked to the woods on Sunday, their wives stimulated the economy. That led them to the Prime Outlets in Birch Run for the 14th annual Deer Widows Weekend.

Some stores offered some of the best shopping deals of the year along with extended store hours and expected to do just as much business as Thanksgiving weekend. And ten of thousands of shoppers took full advantage on the three-day onslaught of deals, games and prizes.

Some came for the day, others made a whole weekend of it. And while most of the shoppers were women, it appeared the men caught on a little this year too.

"I come here because of all the great woman -- to enjoy the scenery," said Harry Snyder.

"We always have fun just making a weekend out of it," added Snyder's wife, Liz.

Mall officials say this year was the most successful Deer Widows Weekend to date.
