CQ Press: Flint is nation's fifth most dangerous city

Monday, November 23, 2009

(11/23/09)--Flint has slipped one spot to become the nation's fifth most dangerous city. The CQ Press released its annual city crime rankings Monday.

Using FBI-compiled crime facts and population figures from 2008, the CQ Press ranks the city of Camden, New Jersey as the nation's most dangerous.

Detroit ranks fourth and Flint is fifth. These rankings considered controversial and unfair by some.

St. Louis' mayor, for example, calls the ranking "stupid" and says his city's crime is down despite moving up on the list from the previous year.

Flint Mayor Dayne Walling's spokesperson points out the numbers are from the year before, before he was actually in office.

And the spokesperson also says that his administration is continuing to work on a plan to reduce crime in the city and that they are actively fight crime each and every day.

The CQ Press gets its crime data from the FBI. Crimes like murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft are tracked and included.
