GENESEE (WJRT) -- (11/04/09) -- For Jordan Fish, volleyball runs in the family. Her dad is her varsity coach at North Branch High School, her mom is the assistant coach and her three sisters were all-star players in their own right.
"My older sister, Kirsten, went to college to play volleyball, my sister plays at Bowling Green and I always was at the gym practicing with them when they were on varsity. You know, we play beach volleyball in the summer. Like, I've been around it my whole life," Jordan said.
The family's ties to volleyball go back a lot further than that. "I met my wife, and she played volleyball at Cedarville College. And she got me into it," he recalled. "Then we started having daughter after daughter, so I knew I was hooked."
The youngest of Jim Fish's four daughters is one of the best players in Michigan. As a sophomore last year, Jordan was named first team all-state. This season, while still only a junior, she has been nominated as a candidate for Gatorade player of the year.
"All I know is if I were picking a team to start, I would pick Jordan right now from the players in the state because she's just multi-talented and can do everything. She's our quarterback out there. She runs our offense, she makes sure people are in the right spot. She doesn't get nervous, she's been in so many big games that she doesn't get nervous, and she's a team player," Jim said.
Her teammates are a big reason for her success. Jordan is a star amongst stars on a North Branch team that hopes to finish the season where it's been ranked all year long -- number one in the state.
"We really hope, and we really think, this is the year that we can really do something, that we can really be the last team standing. So, that's our main goal," Jordan said.
