SAGINAW (WJRT) -- (11/06/09) -- The Saginaw Spirit beat the Oshawa Generals 4-1 Friday night at The Dow Event Center. Winger Jordan Szwarz led the Spirit in scoring with two goals and an assist.
Center Ivan Telegin added two goals and winger Joe Pleckaitis contributed 2 assists to the victory. Spirit goaltender Edward Pasquale posted 44 saves on 45 shots. The victory moves the Spirit to 12-4-2-0, with 26 points on the season.
The Spirit opened the scoring at 10:12 of the first period on a goal from center Ivan Telegin. Assists were credited to wingers Josh Shalla and Jordan Skellett. The Spirit added to their lead at 14:47 with a goal from winger Jordan Szwarz (NHL PHEONIX COYOTES), assisted by center Tyler Murovich and winger Joe Pleckaitis. The first period ended with the Spirit leading 2-0.
Saginaw scored first in the second period, as Szwarz notched his second goal of the night at 8:57. He was assisted by defenseman Nick Crawford (NHL BUFFALO SABRES) and winger Joe Pleckaitis. The Spirit scoring continued as Telegin knocked in his second goal of the game at 11:41. Assists on the goal went to Shalla and Crawford. The Spirit finished the second period ahead 4-0.
The Generals scored early in the third period on a goal from winger Andy Andreoff at 0:37. He was assisted by defenseman Calvin de Haan (NHL NEW YORK ISLANDERS). The Spirit answered quickly with a power play goal at 4:40 from center Tyler Murovich, assisted by Szwarz and winger Vincent Trocheck. Neither team found the net for the remainder of the period, which ended with the Spirit winning 5-1.
Saginaw goalie Edward Pasquale (NHL ATLANTA THRASHERS) finished with 44 saves while Oshawa netminder Michael Zador had 13 saves before being relieved at 8:57 of the second period by Kevin Bailie, who also posted 13 stops in the contest.
Saginaw will finish the week at home, facing off against the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds on Sunday, November 8. The puck drops at 4:00 p.m.
