Meteorologist Jerry Taft joined ABC 7 News as weather anchor in August of 1984.
Taft is the weather anchor for ABC 7's 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts. Prior to joining ABC 7, Taft was a weather anchor at WMAQ-TV for seven years. Before coming to Chicago, Taft was the weekend weatherman at KMOL-TV, the NBC affiliate in San Antonio, Texas from 1976-1977.
Taft served for 15 years in the United States Air Force as a pilot and forecaster before he began his career in broadcasting. He served as a classroom teacher for aviation and flight planning and as an instructor pilot in the T-38 aircraft.
Taft is a certified meteorologist with the AMS Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology from the University of Wisconsin.
