Kevin Roy

Kevin Roy anchors ABC 7's #1 rated Saturday and Sunday morning newscasts, alongside Stacey Baca. He joined ABC 7 News as a Reporter in October 1998, began anchoring the Sunday Morning News in October 2002 and the Saturday Morning News in January 2004. Roy came to ABC 7 from KGW-TV in Portland, Ore., where he was a weekend anchor and investigative reporter (1995-98). Previously, he served as a Washington correspondent for the Belo Broadcasting Bureau (1993-95) and was a weekend anchor and reporter for WHAS-TV in Louisville, Ky. (1992-93). Roy began his broadcasting career as an anchor and reporter for KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (1990-92).

Roy is a five-time Emmy award winner. In 2002, he brought home two Emmys, earning one for Individual Excellence in News Writing and another for his production of "AIDS in Africa: The Lost Generation," which won Best Hard News Feature Series. In 2001, Roy received an Emmy for Best Reporter, Individual Excellence on Camera.

In addition, Roy won a Best News Series Emmy in 2001 for "A Son of Suicide," which explored his family's experience after the suicide of his mother, Diane Marcus Roy. "A Son of Suicide" won several other honors, including the 2001 Silver Dome Award for Best Series by the Illinois Broadcasters Association, a national media award from the Mental Health Association of the Mentally Ill in Illinois; a recognition from the National Association; the Gold Bell Media Award from the Mental Health Association of Illinois; a recognition from the National Alliance on Mental Illness; and a recognition from the Catholic Charities.

In 2007, Roy received a Fellowship with the Carter Center in Atlanta for Mental Health Journalism. Former First Lady Rosalyn Carter has been a champion of mental health issues for more than 30 years. Roy produced a year-long series on suicide and suicide prevention. Based on that work, in 2008, the Illinois chapter of NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, named Roy one of its "Heroes in the Fight" against mental illness which was nominated for a Peter Lisagor award by the Chicago Headline Club in 2009. Roy received his first Emmy in 1998 for Best Investigative Report.

Roy is a member of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and is a volunteer for the Catholic Charities' Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide (LOSS) and the Mental Health Association in Illinois. Roy also volunteers for Chances by Choice, a non-profit foundation in Oak Park dedicated to finding homes for children born internationally with HIV/AIDS. He is also on the advisory council for Elyssa's Mission, an organization dedicated to teaching suicide prevention in Chicago area schools. Roy also serves as a member of Chicago Bauhaus and Beyond, a group dedicated to the appreciation and preservation of modernism, especially mid-century modernism.

A native Chicagoan, Roy graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1990, where he earned his B.A. in Broadcast Journalism. He resides on Chicago's North Side.
