June 24, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Four people, including a 9-year-old girl, were shot on the South Side Wednesday evening.
Chicago police say Chastity Turner,9, died at the University of Chicago Medical Center after being shot in the neck.
Three other people, including Turner's 31-year-old father, were wounded in the shooting. Two people were in serious to critical condition with gunshot wounds to the back.
Witnesses say it appeared one gunman aimed right at the child.
The shootings happened about 7 p.m. near 74th and Stewart while the girl was outside taking care of a dog.
Police have recovered the van they believe was used in the drive-by shooting. They did not find weapons and have no suspects in custody.
The four victims -- three adults and a child -- includes a little girl who was visiting her father.
Police arrived to the 7400-block of South Stewart to find several people shot after an apparent drive-by shooting. Among the victims was 9-year-old Chastity Turner.
"I don't know why they would come and could do that...you don't shoot no kids," said Rico Turner, Chastity Turner's uncle.
"These are our kids. Don't nobody care about them but us. These our kids. We gotta make sure they're safe. Y'all are doing this to your own people. Stop it," said Ericka Johnson, Turner's cousin.
Relatives said Chastity was giving the dog a bath on the side of the house with her father. Someone fired in their direction.
"She saw the gun so she started running and she knew they were shooting yesterday. So she started running and they started shooting at her," said Kevin Johnson, neighor.
Neighbors told ABC7 there had been shootings on Tuesday night in the same block. But the adults were able to get children inside quickly.
