The anti-violence group CeaseFire has changed its name to CureViolence. The community group is known for fighting crime in Chicago and other cities.

"We will continue to stop shootings and killings in Chicago's toughest neighborhoods," said CeaseFire founder Gary Slutkin in a press release. "We will continue to partner with others who are bringing that same model to their communities."

The organization relies on outreach workers, faith leaders and other community members to intervene and help promote alternatives.

In July, the City of Chicago began funding the anti-violence group's efforts by awarding it a $1 million grant to help stop the violence. The new, pilot program aimed at reducing and preventing gang violence initially focused on so-called hot spots in two police districts on the South and West sides.
