U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald in People's 'sexiest men' issue

November 18, 2005 (NEW YORK) (WLS) -- U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald is trying his best to avoid the spotlight now that People magazine named him one of their "sexiest men alive." The magazine says Fitzgerald is an unlikely sexy man.

Editors say his investigation of the CIA leak helped make Fitzgerald a superhero for our political age. Fitzgerald is ranked with other celebrities like Matthew McConaughey.

Like most federal officials, Fitzgerald is remaining tight lipped about his new distinction. As expected, he is taking a ribbing from his colleagues.

"I've played a lot of practical jokes on people for a lot of years and they all got even at once. OK, new topic!" said Patrick Fitzgerald, U.S. attorney.

"Unlike the prior press conference, if you have any question about why I wasn't chosen as one of the sexiest men ask me anytime you want to," said Gary Shapiro, assistant U.S. attorney.

The special "sexiest men" edition of People magazine goes on sale Friday.
