October 14, 2013 (LOS ANGELES) (WLS) -- Michael Douglas says he lied about his cancer because there was a chance he could lose part of his jaw and tongue.
In august 2010, Douglas announced he had throat cancer, but now he says it was actually tongue cancer.
He says his surgeon suggested he lie about the type of cancer, because if he ended up needing surgery he stood to lose part of his jaw and tongue. He didn't think Douglas would want to talk about that on his press tour for the movie "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps."
Douglas is now two years cancer free. He revealed the true type of cancer he had in an interview with Samuel L. Jackson on a British talk show last week.
