Evidence links vitamin D to a healthy mouth

We know it can help keep bones strong, but there is new evidence vitamin D may also have something to do with a healthy mouth.

A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition finds people with the highest blood levels of vitamin D were 20 percent less likely to have gum disease. But the study only shows an association and does not offer proof the vitamin is bestowing the benefit.

Other recent studies found vitamin D helps maintain a healthy immune system and may fight inflammation.
